Do you ever wish you could improve the appearance of your front teeth? Good news! Our cosmetic dentist in Holly, MI, is proud to offer the veneers procedure. A dental veneer is a wafer-thin porcelain shell that we adhere to the front of your tooth. The purpose of the procedure is to improve the aesthetics of your front teeth so you can smile with confidence.
Here’s what you can expect during the porcelain veneers process.
In general, you may be a candidate for dental veneers if you have minor cosmetic issues affecting the front teeth. However, any issues that affect the structural integrity of your teeth will need to be addressed by fillings, dental crowns, or other treatments. For example, Dr. Bandy may recommend a dental crown to restore a tooth with a deep crack.
To truly know if you’re a candidate for veneers, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with Dr. Bandy.
Our dentist will need to create space for the veneers to sit on top of your teeth, which involves filing down and shaping the enamel. Once your teeth have been prepared, we’ll take dental impressions to send to the lab that will be responsible for fabricating your veneers.
Since we won’t be able to place your permanent veneers on your teeth right away, we’ll place temporary ones. That way, your teeth will be protected while you wait for the lab to create your new porcelain veneers.
When you return for your second appointment at Bandy Dental, our dentist will remove your temporary veneers and replace them with the permanent ones. Dr. Bandy will then check the size, shape, and color of your veneers to ensure they’re a perfect match to the rest of your smile.
Next, our dentist will clean, polish, and etch your teeth to ensure the veneers create a strong connection with the enamel. We also want to avoid trapping any bacteria between the veneers and the fronts of your teeth.
For the final step, Dr. Bandy will cement your veneers in place. He’ll also check your bite and make any final adjustments to your porcelain dental veneers to ensure a comfortable fit.
It’s important that you continue to practice good oral hygiene at home. The healthier your smile, the longer your porcelain veneers are likely to last. For this reason, we recommend brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes at a time. You should also be flossing once a day to remove any plaque or food particles hiding between teeth.
Continue seeing our dentist for preventive care. While your dental veneers should last for several years with proper care, Dr. Bandy will monitor the condition of your veneers and recommend replacements as needed.
